How can I ensure cost-efficient use of solar energy for lighting in the night?

I have worked in Sierra Leone, the poorest country in the world. it is no electricity where I will be. when I use a 12v solar battery charger and buy a 12V (say, creating fluorescent) light of the situation, how many lumens as a 60W light bulb how many hours can I light every night) (assuming 14 hours sunlight? Additional suggestions for the power from the grid are welcome.

You need to determine the performance of the lamp at the draw that will be a solar charger large enough to replace the power. Ok … Let's Make Some guesses and assumptions. A 12 V DC, which sets out as many lumens as a 60W fluorescent is to draw over 15 watts. Watts / volts = amps, so 15/12 = 1.25 amps. OK … Now the battery not so much the problem as a typical deep cycle battery is fully charged, if you do the 1.25 amps long enough to walk a few nights without full sun during the day. The problem is the solar charger … Something you need to be large enough to the 1.25 amp draw, plus a little substitute for the loss of efficiency. Here is an example for a product available that may suit your needs. http://store.sundancesolar.com/10watsolsolp.html This panel will 18.7V on, 62 amps, In rough numbers, … would bring to light one hours running time for all 2 hours of solar charging. You can see some pretty nice "starter-get" units have the battery, including battery chargers and inverters … this system to less than $ 400, and you can live like a king … in Sierra Leone, anyway. http://store.sundancesolar.com/20wadosoenst.html
