Feasibility of renewable energy?

It seems that many in this forum is now pushing for "renewables only" solution. If these People played on big coal or renewable energy alone could actually American power? Is it realistic to assume that renewable energy base could be in the U.S.? Is opposition to nuclear power deregulate exactly what the coal companies want?

I'm not suggesting that we should the United States to renewable Energy power alone, at least not in the near future. We have already received more than 20% of our energy from nuclear power plants, and I do not propose that we close all after below. It is the construction (and decommissioning) costs, nuclear energy is too expensive. The plants that are already built, are in fact cheap to run. But the fact _ylt = AtQv6lgMbVcLoJjUbGXcf8Lsy6IX; _ylv = 3? qid = 20090622093513AAMnYub And yes, some of these, such as solar and geothermal energy can produce baseload power. http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/04/14/solar_electric_thermal/ If it covered the construction of new power plants, why go with nuclear power, which will take a decade to get a plant that will cost in the order of 8 billion U.S. dollars to build, always goes over time and on budget is a big financial commitment, and even more CO2 in a higher cost than renewable energy? What's to gain? Large solar thermal plants can be built in just a few years, cheap energy production with zero after construction emissions, zero fuel consumption, zero worries about terrorism and a collapse and radioactive waste, etc. For me it is the obvious choice, with other renewable energies such as wind power and geothermal power combined, which are also cheaper than nuclear power. http://climateprogress.org/2009/02/04/an-introduction-to-nuclear-power/
